We discovered that the cousin of the owner os Chang SHin Yuan has a restaurant in Belmont called SHangri-La. We went with high hopes and am glad to say we were not disappointed. We eschewed such Chinese favorites as pig ear soup and crispy sour tripe for their more traditional successes like "tea-smoked duck" "twice cooked pork" and "sprouted pea pods." Their were no forks on the tables; no caucasians in the restaurant. We feasted.

My friend and colleague Carolyn gave me an incredible Ginger Cookie recipe that is literally, the best thing I ever ate. The only thing missing is fresh pieces of ginger that I might put into the next batch. A great baking arrow to add to my weapons basket.

Shangri-La is awesome. We've been going there for a few years... you have to try the sauteed string beans. And Yu Hsiang Anything. I'd eat Yu Hsiang Cardboard, if they made it.
