Year 4, Day 90: Lunch With An Old Friend

I met an old friend for lunch.  We went out for a big Chinese lunch.  Even though I was coming down with a cold, I soldiered on and went to the card game.  There, I got progressively sicker.  On the good side, I was the big winner.  Additionally, I tasted the best potato chips the Lord has ever made.  They're called Tyrell's Sweet Chili and Hot Pepper Chips.  Absolutely yummy.

Year 4, Day 68: I heart Shangri-La

A great moment for me during the very early stages of my diet was eating a dish called pork with celery from Chan Shin Yuan in Watertown, MA.  I had been on phase one for maybe three, four weeks and hadn't had anything with any flavor in it for a while.   Everything tasted like cardboard and felt like rubber in my mouth.   That day was an incredible day because the spice and the flavors made fireworks in my mouth and I ate the whole thing in three minutes, like a depression-era hobo given some soup after a long day canvassing the rail road tracks.   The cousin of the owner of Chan owns Shangri-La, which is amazingly, much better than Chan and fortunately, close enough to my office to go every once in a while.  We try to eat our way through the menu and today was no exception.

Breakfast
Kashi
Heritage Flakes
Banana
Blueberries
Strawberries
Soy Milk
Coffee

Lunch: Shangri-La
Sauteed Cabbage
Pork, Bean Curd and Scallions
Pork Meatball and Bok Choy

Snack
Four Sticks of Beef Jerky
2 Cheese Sticks

Dinner:
Tuna Salad
Bok Choy

Year 3, Day 229 Back to Shangri-La

We were wrong about Shangri-La. It is in fact, fantastic. We just didn't order the right things. Now we are hooked. We may leave Chang Shin Yuan behind, though its proximity makes that nearly impossible. The memory of its blue-tinged scallops, though, may make me drive that literal one extra mile.

Breakfast
Kashi Go Lean!
Heritage Flakes
Strawberries
Blueberries
Banana
Unsweetened Soy Milk
Coffee

Snack
1 Extra Smokey
1 Honey Crisp that had several small bites in it, making it brown in those areas
1 oz Boston Lite Popcorn

Lunch: Shangri La
Mooshi Pork 2
Beef with Chinese Celery
Pea pod tendrils

Dinner
Tilapia Sweet & Salty
Broccoli

Skipped the funky chunky popcorn. But it was hard. Oh my God that is the greatest thing ever.

Year 3, Day 187: Shangri La, Ginger Gookies

We discovered that the cousin of the owner os Chang SHin Yuan has a restaurant in Belmont called SHangri-La. We went with high hopes and am glad to say we were not disappointed. We eschewed such Chinese favorites as pig ear soup and crispy sour tripe for their more traditional successes like "tea-smoked duck" "twice cooked pork" and "sprouted pea pods." Their were no forks on the tables; no caucasians in the restaurant. We feasted.

Breakfast
Kashi
No Heritage flakes, had to use Flax Flakes
Strawberries
Blueberries
Banana
Unsweetened Soy Milk
Coffee

Snack
6 pieces jerky
2 oz Boston Lite Popcorn
1 Apple

Lunch: Shangri-La
Tea-Smoked Duck
Sprouted Pea Pods
Twice Cooked Pork

Dinner
Salmon
Cauliflower

Ginger cookies (2)

My friend and colleague Carolyn gave me an incredible Ginger Cookie recipe that is literally, the best thing I ever ate. The only thing missing is fresh pieces of ginger that I might put into the next batch. A great baking arrow to add to my weapons basket.
